Declaration of Electronic Content (DC-e)

The Brazilian government established the mandatory use of the Declaration of Electronic Content (DC-e) throughout the national territory. This document definitively replaces the old paper declaration of contents form.

If you ship without Nota Fiscal Eletrônica (NF-e), this article is for you. Here you will find out what the DC-e is, who should issue it and how to do it directly from envia.com.

Meet the DC-e

The DC-e (Declaração de Conteúdo Eletrônica) (Electronic Content Declaration) is the official digital document required by the Brazilian government to accompany the transportation of goods and merchandise in shipments that do not require Nota Fiscal Eletrônica (NF-e).

Its use guarantees:

  • Legal certainty for the shipper
  • Traceability of the contents transported
  • Compliance with auditing agencies
  • Agility in the logistics process

💡 Important term: The ICMS is the Brazilian tax on the circulation of goods and services. Companies or individuals that regularly collect it are obliged to issue NF-e and, therefore, no use the DC-e.

Who should issue the E-DC?

The DC-e is intended for exclusively to shippers who are not ICMS taxpayers. Check if your profile fits:

ProfileExample of use
IndividualGifts, personal items or occasional sales between individuals
MEI or Exempt MicroenterpriseSmall businesses without state enrollment or below the ICMS mandatory threshold
Marketplace SellerThose who sell on digital platforms or social networks and do not issue NF-e

⚠️ Important: If you are already required to issue Nota Fiscal Eletrônica (NF-e), you should continue to use it. The DC-e does not replace the fiscal note in frequent commercial transactions or those that require the traditional fiscal document.

Fulfill your obligations as an issuer

To comply with the regulations, you must:

  1. State the content accurately Indicates the clear description, quantity and unit value of each item in the package.
  2. Print and paste the DACE on the package After issuing the E-DC, the system automatically generates the DACE (Declaração Auxiliar de Conteúdo Eletrônica) (Auxiliary Electronic Account Statement) - an auxiliary document with QR code to be printed out and pasted on the side external and visible of the package for audit purposes.
