Automatic Package
The Automatic Package It is a tool that automatically assigns the right packaging to your orders. It analyzes the dimensions and weight of your products to select the most efficient packaging, helping you save time and generate shipping labels with the correct weight for each shipment.
How does it work?
- Group the items in an order and calculate their total volume.
- Compare dimensions and weights to select the most efficient package.
- Choose the smallest package that guarantees a safe shipment.
- Apply the weight calculation method you have configured for your store.
Automatic package configuration

2. Register your available packages
Add all your packaging options to your store settings, including their weights. This provides options for the Automatic Packaging feature to use and is essential for the weight calculation to work correctly.
ℹ️ If your products already come in their original packaging and can be shipped that way, we recommend listing them as packages as well.
3. Choose how the weight of your shipments is calculated
This is the most important setting to avoid charges for weight discrepancies. Shipping companies charge based on the weight recorded on the shipping label at the time of pickup. If that weight is less than the actual weight, they will charge an additional fee for the difference.
That's why you can choose from three modes depending on your packaging:
A) Product weight only (default)
The package weight is the sum of the weights of the items in the order. The weight of the box is not included. Use this option when your packaging is very light and does not affect the shipping quote, or when your products are shipped without an additional box.
Example You sell clothing. Your products weigh 500 g, and you ship them in a 20 g bag. The difference is minimal, so the product weight is sufficient for an accurate quote.
B) Weight of box + products
The weight of the selected box is added to the weight of the items. Use this option when your boxes are heavy enough to affect the shipping rate.
Example You sell electronics. Your product weighs 800 g, and the box with protective padding weighs 300 g. Without including the box, the shipping label would show 800 g. With this method, the shipping label shows 1.1 kg, which is the actual weight. This prevents the shipping carrier from charging you for excess weight at the time of pickup.
C) Net weight of the box
The package weight is simply the weight of the box listed in your packaging catalog. Use this option when you have boxes with a known fixed weight and want that to be the reference weight, regardless of the contents.
Example You always ship in 1-kg boxes, and your products never exceed that combined weight. By setting this mode, all your shipments will be consistently priced at 1 kg, with no surprises.
⚠️ Important: So that the modes B and C To ensure everything works properly, your packages must have the weight listed in your packaging catalog. If a package does not have a weight configured, the system will use 1 kg as the default value.

FAQ
Which mode should I choose? It depends on the type of packaging you use.
- If your boxes are light, use "Product weight only.".
- If your boxes are heavy and you want to avoid exceeding the weight limit, use "Box Weight + Products.".
- If you always use the same type of box and want its weight to be the fixed reference, select "Box weight only.".
What happens if I do not have registered packages? The system will suggest one, but for best results and to use modes B and C correctly, we recommend entering your packages' dimensions and weight.
Will changing modes affect my previous orders? No. The configured mode applies only to new orders processed with Automatic Packaging enabled.
Can I deactivate the Automatic Package? This is not recommended. If you disable this feature, the system will not be able to correctly calculate shipping costs at checkout or automatically assign packages, which may increase the time required to generate shipping labels from Ecommerce Pro.
