Palletizing
Palletizing is a key logistics technique to ensure the efficient shipment of goods, facilitating their handling and protection during transportation and storage.
It consists of grouping and systematically organizing objects on a firm and flat surface, commonly known as a pallet, skid, or platform.
Steps for correctly palletize shipments
- Stacking
- Place the boxes on top of each other so they align.
- Use corrugated cardboard separators between each layer to support the load.
- It is recommended to stack no more than four layers without excessive weight.
- Strapping
- Reinforce the stability of the pallet with straps.
- Secure the straps at the edges of the platform to keep the load safe.
- Plastic film application
- Secure the stretch film to the platform, covering the base.
- Raise the film to the top of the stack, wrapping 40% on each turn.
- Give three additional turns at the top to secure the load.
- Make sure the film covers part of the top surface to consolidate the securing of the load.

Important Fact: Palletizing is recommended for 10 cartons or more.
Materials used for palletizing
- Pallet: Wooden, plastic, or other material frame to transport loads.
- Base and Tops: Protect the base and top of the pallet with corrugated boxes or separators.
- Strapping: Metal or plastic band to secure the packaging.
- Plastic or Cardboard Separators: Prevent slipping between stacks and provide structure.
- Cardboard Separator Sheet: Secures and protects heavy products.
- Plastic Film (Stretch Wrap): Secures loads, prevents movement, and protects against dust and moisture.
- Corner protectors: They protect edges and increase strength.
- Crate: Rigid structure that protects products from compression.
Benefits of palletizing
- Reduction in loading times and receipt attention.
- Fewer claims for shortages and overages.
- Reduced loading and unloading costs.
- Improved handling and stability of products.
- Increased efficiency in the transport fleet.
- Optimization of storage space.
