Payment of duties

When you ship internationally, packages may be subject to tariffs and customs duties when crossing the border. This setting allows you to specify in advance who will cover that cost: you as the sender, the recipient, or Envia.com with a delivery guarantee.

ℹ️ This setting applies only to shipping carriers that offer international shipping: FedEx, DHL Express, and UPS.

ℹ️ This section is only accessible to users with this role Admin or higher.

ℹ️ To learn more about what fees are, how they're calculated, and which option is best for your transaction, check out the article Customs, taxes and duties in the International Shipping section.

Access the settings panel

  1. Log in to your Envia.com account
  2. In the left-hand side menu, go to Create shipment > Print options and Carriers

The button Payment of duties appears next to the shipping carriers that support this configuration (FedEx, DHL Express, UPS). If the button is grayed out, it means that shipping carrier does not have any shipping rate options available for your account.

Choose who pays the fees

When you click on Payment of duties, a modal window will open showing the available options for that shipping carrier. The most common options are:

Option
SenderPay now. Customs charges are prepaid and the amount is guaranteed.
AddresseePay later. The consignee covers customs charges at the time of delivery.
Guaranteed ShippingPay later. Customs charges are billed to your account once the shipment is delivered.

ℹ️ The option Guaranteed Shipping It adds an extra charge to the cost of your guidebook, but ensures that the package won't be held up at customs due to nonpayment.

Set Up Tuition Payment

  1. Click Payment of duties next to the shipping method you want to configure.
  2. Read the modal's informational notice.
  3. Select the option that corresponds to your transaction.
  4. Click Save.

The settings will be saved as the default for that shipping carrier for all your future international shipments.

ℹ️ You can change the settings at any time by repeating this process. Shipments that have already been generated will not be affected.

ℹ️ Yes Guaranteed Shipping If it does not appear as an option, it means that the carrier or route does not support guaranteed prepaid rates for that destination.

Recommendations

  • If you sell to end customers (B2C), use Send Guaranteed to prevent unexpected charges to the recipient and reduce rejections.
  • If you sell to companies that import regularly (B2B), payment by Addressee This is common because they already have their own customs clearance processes.
  • Consult with your legal or tax team if you have any questions about the implications of assuming responsibility for paying duties in your transaction.
