Split an order into multiple packages
When you receive an order with several products, it is normally shipped together in a single box. There are situations where you need to ship it in separate parts.
The Split order feature lets you distribute the products from an order into two or more boxes, each with its own shipment. The original order does not disappear or change in your store. It simply now has multiple boxes that you can ship independently or with the same carrier.
Common use cases
Section titled “Common use cases”| Situation | Why you need to split it |
|---|---|
| One of the items is very large or very heavy | It needs a different carrier from the rest |
| The products are in two different warehouses | Each part leaves from a different place |
| The full order exceeds the maximum allowed weight or size | You must distribute it across several shipments |
| Only part of the order is ready to ship | You can ship what you already have without waiting for the rest |
Steps to split an order
Section titled “Steps to split an order”-
Go to Envia.com
-
Open Ecommerce Pro > View orders
-
You will see the list of all your orders. Click the order number you want to split to open it.
-
Inside the order, scroll down to the Shipment type section. Click the three dots ( ⋮ ) and select Split order.
-
The split board opens. The screen is organized into three areas:
Area What it contains Products (left, top) All items in the order that are still unassigned. Each product shows how many units are available and a –+control to define how many to move.Assigned products (left, bottom) Products that were already assigned to a box. Here you can verify that none are left unassigned. New package (right) Destination area. Click the blue + button to create the first package and start assigning products. -
Create the packages you need. You have two ways to do it:
- Click + New package to add one box at a time.
- Use the Packages control at the top of the screen: adjust the number with the
–and+buttons, or type the quantity directly. When you reduce the number, the products from that package automatically return to unassigned.
-
Configure the dimensions of each package if needed. Inside each box you can select a package from your saved catalog or enter custom dimensions. You can also change the unit of measure between centimeters and inches from the same form.
-
Drag the products from the left column to the corresponding package. If a product has several units, adjust the quantity with the
–and+controls before dragging it, so you move only the units you need in that box. -
If you need to delete a package, click the three dots ( ⋮ ) on that box and select the option to delete it. The products assigned to it return to the pending column.
-
When you are satisfied with the distribution, click Confirm.
-
When you return to the orders list, you will see that the order now shows a Packages tag with the number of boxes it was split into (for example, Packages 2). From there you can quote the shipment for each box.
Result after confirming
Section titled “Result after confirming”When you confirm the split, the order stays the same. No new orders are created and nothing changes in your store. What changes is that the order now contains multiple boxes, each with its own products and in Pending label status until you purchase its shipment.
You can quote in two ways:
| Option | When to use it |
|---|---|
| Quote | Quotes all boxes together with the same carrier |
| Quote by package | Quotes each box separately, useful if you need different carriers for each one |
Price: The total order value is distributed among the boxes based on the products each one contains. You do not have to calculate it yourself.
Insurance: If you have shipping insurance turned on in your account or store, all boxes inherit it automatically. If you do not have insurance active, the boxes will not have it either.
Important considerations
Section titled “Important considerations”Frequently asked questions
Section titled “Frequently asked questions”How many packages can I create? You can create up to one package for each product in the order. For example, if the order has 7 products, you can create up to 7 packages.
Can I keep a single package after splitting? Yes. If you reduce the number of packages to 1 using the top control, the products return to unassigned and you can have everything in a single box again before confirming.
Does it work on mobile? Yes, although the experience is different. Instead of dragging products, each package shows – and + controls to assign units and an arrow button to move them.
What if I assign a product by mistake? You can move it to another box before confirming. You can also use Reset to start over. Changes are only saved when you click Confirm.
Can I use different carriers for each box? Yes. When quoting, choose the Quote by package option to select a different carrier for each box based on your needs.
Are my reports or sales history affected? No. The split does not change the original order in your store or in your reports. It only reorganizes the products into boxes inside Envia.com.
