Duty payment

When you make international shipments, packages may be subject to duties and customs taxes when they cross the border. This setting lets you define in advance how those charges are covered: pay them upfront with Envia Guaranteed, bill them to your account as the sender after delivery, or let the recipient pay them when they receive the package.

  1. Sign in to your Envia.com account
  2. In the left sidebar, go to Create shipment > Print format and Carriers

The Duty payment button appears next to carriers that support this setting (FedEx, DHL Express, UPS). If the button is disabled, that carrier has no duty options available for your account.

When you click Duty payment, a modal opens with the options available for that carrier. The most common options are:

Option
Envia Guaranteed Pay now. Guaranteed customs duties and taxes are included. Your customer will not be charged at delivery.
Sender Customs taxes will be charged to your Envia account after the package is delivered.
The recipient pays on delivery Pay later by the recipient: The customer pays customs duties and taxes when they receive the package. This can cause delays or failed deliveries.
  1. Click Duty payment next to the carrier you want to configure.
  2. Read the informational notice in the modal.
  3. Select the option that matches your operation.
  4. Click Save.

The setting will be saved as the default for that carrier on all your future international shipments.

  • If you sell to end customers (B2C), use Envia Guaranteed (Prepaid) to avoid unexpected charges for the recipient and reduce refusals.
  • If you sell to companies that import regularly (B2B), payment by The recipient pays on delivery is common, because they often have their own customs clearance processes.
  • Check with your legal or tax team if you have questions about the implications of assuming duty payment in your operation.
