Automatic package

Automatic package is a tool that automatically assigns the right package to your orders. It analyzes the dimensions and weight of your products to choose the most efficient packaging, helping you save time and generate labels with the correct weight on each shipment.

How does it work?

1. Groups the products in an order and calculates their total volume.
2. Compares dimensions and weights to select the most efficient package.
3. Chooses the smallest package that still ensures a safe shipment.
4. Applies the weight calculation mode you configured for your store.

Automatic package setup

1. Define dimensions and weight for your products

Enter the dimensions (length, width, and height) and the real weight of each product in your store. Not sure how? Review our Guide to configure products

2. Register your available packages

Add all your packaging in your store settings, including its weight. This gives Automatic package options to assign and is required for the weight calculation to work correctly.

Note

If your products already have factory packaging and can be shipped that way, it is recommended to add them as packages as well.

3. Choose how the weight of your shipments is calculated

This is the most important setting to avoid charges for weight differences. Carriers charge based on the weight recorded on the label at pickup. If that weight is lower than the real weight, they apply an extra charge for the difference.

That is why you can choose among three modes based on how you pack:

A) Product weight only (default)

The package weight is the sum of the item weights in the order. The box weight is not included. Use it when your packaging is very light and does not affect the quote, or your products ship without an extra box.

Note

Example: You sell clothing. Your products weigh 500 g and you ship them in a 20 g bag. The difference is minimal, so the product weight is enough to quote correctly.

B) Box weight + products

The selected box weight is added to the item weights. Use it when your boxes have a relevant weight that can affect the carrier rate.

Note

Example: You sell electronics. Your product weighs 800 g and the box with protective fill weighs 300 g. Without including the box, the label would say 800 g. With this mode, the label reflects 1.1 kg, which is the real weight. This helps you avoid an overweight charge at pickup.

C) Box weight only

The package weight is only the box weight registered in your packaging catalog. Use it when you have boxes with a known fixed weight and you want that to be the reference weight, regardless of the contents.

Note

Example: You always ship in 1 kg boxes and your products never exceed that combined weight. With this mode, all your shipments will quote at 1 kg consistently, without surprises.

Important

⚠️ Important: For modes B and C to work correctly, your packages must have the weight registered in your packaging catalog. If a package does not have a configured weight, the system will use 1 kg as the minimum value.

Turn on Automatic package

1. Sign in to your Envia.com account
2. Go to Ecommerce Pro > Set up your store
3. Choose your store and click Settings.
4. In Automatic package turn on the switch.
5. In Weight calculation, select the mode that matches your operation.
6. Use the Run test button to verify how the assigned package looks, including the calculated weight. If the result does not match what you expect, check that your packages have the weight registered correctly.

Important features

• If you do not have registered packages, the system will recommend a suitable one, but for better results it is recommended to register them manually with their weight.
• In orders with multiple products:
  • If they are different, it will appear as Multiproducts.
  • If they are the same, it will appear as Default.
• The weight calculation mode is per store. If you have several connected stores, you can configure a different mode on each one.
• If your products do not have registered dimensions, the real weight will be used as the reference.

Note

The system will always look for the smallest possible packaging that still ensures safety.

Frequently asked questions

Which mode should I choose? It depends on your type of packaging.

• If your boxes are light, use Product weight only.
• If your boxes have relevant weight and you want to avoid overweights, use Box weight + products.
• If you always use the same type of box and want its weight to be the fixed reference, use Box weight only.

What happens if I do not have registered packages? The system will suggest one, but for better results and to use modes B and C correctly, it is recommended to register your packaging with its dimensions and weight.

Does changing the mode affect my previous orders? No. The configured mode applies only to new orders processed with Automatic package turned on.

Can I turn off Automatic package? It is not recommended. If you turn it off, the system will not be able to calculate shipping costs correctly at checkout or assign packages automatically, which can increase the time needed to generate labels from Ecommerce Pro.
